We would not be human if we didn’t feel anxious from time to time. Anxiety is a process that can actually be helpful at times in alerting us to things that are wrong or not quite right. The problem we face is if we allow anxiety to get out of control.
The process of thought and action requires a finely tuned balance to be struck between apathy and anxiety. Getting this balance right means you can remain motivated without getting majorly stress out about stuff.
Being able to cope with anxiety means changing attitudes towards it. Our behaviours are reinforced with attitudes and vice versa. Anxiety would not be such a problem if you didn’t reinforce it with other unhelpful attitudes.
If you want to make healthy progress towards your goals in life, you need to review your goals and attitudes on a regular basis. Many people experience anxiety because they have set themselves unachievable goals.
Anxiety is a bully. The way to beat a bully is not to let it push you around. Acquiring anti-anxiety attitudes will arm you with the necessary defences to take a stand against bullying. For instance, one of the things you can do is to change you anxiety provoking thoughts to anxiety preventing thoughts.
Telling yourself that things are awful will only make them so. Beating anxiety means putting things into perspective, taking a fresh look, and being in the best frame of mind you can bet into.
Anxiety is a source of fear. The only way to conquer a fear is to face it. When people say things like ‘don’t worry, it’s just your anxiety’, the just implies, wrongly, that anxiety is a mild sensation. In fact, anxiety can be an extremely intense experience.
It is, however, important to remember that anxiety is not going to produce dangerous symptoms. The point of anxiety is that it can be unpleasant but not dangerous.
If you have concerns about your bodily sensations then you may consider seeing your doctor. Your doctor may then be able to prescribe a source of treatment for you to undergo.
Panic attacks are intense bursts of anxiety in the absence of real danger, and can often seem to come out of the blue. Panic attacks are often very strong physical sensations such as nausea, heart palpitation, a feeling of shortness of breath, choking , dizziness, and hot sweats. Panic sets in when people mistake these physical sensations as dangerous and get into a vicious circle because these misinterpretations lead to more anxiety.
Put panic out of your life by deliberately triggering off panic sensations. Enter situations you would normally avoid and resist walking away too early. You should then try to increase your exposure to this circumstance periodically, until you no longer fear it.
Any kind of feeling depends upon a point of view, in the same way we don’t all react the same to films, music and even people. This makes the world a much more fun place, I’m sure you agree. When it comes to fear, we need to challenge who we are as people if we are experiencing too many negative, fearful feelings.
The type of fear I am referring to is the type of fear that stops you from applying for a job or going up to someone in a club and talking to them. For this type of fear, we need to challenge our core value system to find out why we are being so hard on ourselves.
Once this fear has manifested itself into anxiety, you know you have to conquer it very quickly. Keeping your emotional state in check is very important because of the role emotions play in our mental health. Sometimes we need to retreat and recuperate from a bad series of events
